When we moved into our current home we inherited a massive Forsythia. The yellow flowering bushes did not only spread its branches over to my neighbors garden but over my own as well.
For the first year, I kept borrowing my neighbor’s hedge trimmer as the only once I was available to use was too heavy for me.
As a first-time owner of a bigger yard I was totally unaware on how often I had to trim all my hedges. Even though my neighbor was gracious enough to lend me the hedge trimmer every time, I felt uneasy after the xth time asking for it.
The bushes are part of the landscaping and will not go anywhere anytime soon, so I had to get one of my own.
I really liked my neighbors hedge trimmer and wanted to get the same one.
I liked that the hedge trimmer was:
1) cordless and
2 ) light weight.
As I am the main person who does the trimming that is an important factor for me.
However, before doing the actual purchase a friend recommended to me to look into DeWalt as he knew I own a drill from DeWalt and the batteries might be compatible.
I not only researched that, but what other options are out where, just in case, so not to miss out on a good quality product.
I will only look at trimmers, which are cordless and battery charged. If I know me well I will cut through any cord in record speed. I also have bushes around the house and want to have the flexibility to just walk around and not always be needed to relocate a long extension cord, even though I own one.
From my experience with my neighbors hedge trimmer, a battery powered one is enough for my needs.
So, the following trimmers are the once I short listed:

Summary
As you can see the price range of the above cordless hedge trimmer various greatly. Additionally, the price depends if a battery is included or not.
From the weight perspective the Greenworks Hedge Trimmer is the lightest, but does that make it a better trimmer? Even though I want a light weight tool, I want a tool, which can easily trim the twigs and thin branches in my garden and yard without jamming or even dying after one season.
The Words Hedge Trimmer is the longest, which could be good with my tall Forsythia. However, I might need to use a ladder anyway as I am only 5.6′ and the Forsythia is approximately 6.5′ high.
The Black Decker Hedge Trimmer is by far the cheapest option. On top of it I already used the trimmer and have a positive experience with this gardening tool.
The DeWalt Hedge Trimmer is by far the heaviest. However, as we not only already own the drill, we own a tool set from DeWalt as well for several years. The quality of the tools is great. Additionally, the drill came with 2 batteries. So I could by the Hedge Trimmer without batteries and would bring the price down from $230.99 to $139.99.
I personally swing back and forth between the Black and Decker trimmer and the DeWalt, while leaning towards the DeWalt. And the reason is that I already have the drill with two batteries, which are from the same 20V line.
